Since the beginning of 2020, the Buddenbrookhaus museum has been closed due to the extensive renovation of the house and its exhibition. The story of the writer brothers Heinrich and Thomas Mann is therefore told in the Behnhaus. The city palace vividly conveys a sense of the lifeworld of the Lübeck merchants from whom the brothers came. Their relationship to their hometown of Lübeck is ambivalent. As teenagers, the brothers rebel against the perceived narrowness of the Hanseatic city and later go new ways as writers. But the memory of their childhood in Lübeck shapes their lives and their writing. The hometown even becomes world literature in famous novels such as Buddenbrooks and Professor Unrat. Follow Tony Buddenbrook on the traces of her novel family and the Mann family through the exhibition!
The Behnhaus is perhaps Lübeck's most beautiful city palace. You will find it at Königstr. 9-11. As the Behnhaus Drägerhaus Museum, it houses a large collection of 19th and 20th century art. For example, you will find highlights by Edvard Munch or Caspar David Friedrich.
